CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS: [KYLE BISHOP] Age 25, he’s an athletic, attractive pro footballer, “an average player with an above average work ethic.” Despite all his hard work, Kyle finds himself out of a job after 3 years in the pros and returns to his home town, at a complete loss about what the future holds. His anxiety is largely allayed when he reconnects with beautiful Faith Davis, his long-ago flame. But just when he has kissed football goodbye for good and is settling into his new life with Faith and her son, he gets called to try out for a pro NFL team — a summons that threatens his new relationship…LEAD (1)

[FAITH DAVIS] Age 25, she’s “girl next door cute and quirky.” Kyle’s former flame, now the mother of a 7 year old boy, Faith has recently broken up with her philandering boyfriend, Rell, the mother of her son. She and Kyle parted under negative circumstances, so when Kyle comes back to town, Faith doesn’t exactly welcome him with open arms, but the two are soon involved in a torrid relationship. Faith seems committed to Kyle, but her actual intentions towards the attentive Rell are misconstrued by Kyle, who fears she has been playing him all along. And when Kyle entertains a new football offer, Faith feels disgruntled and abandoned. But the two may reconcile their differences at long last, with very happy results…LEAD (25)

[RELIFORD “RELL” HAYES] Age 32, he’s a handsome, clean-cut man, the father of Faith’s son, Von. When Faith catches him cheating, she breaks up with him, but Rell is determined to earn her forgiveness. He showers her with gifts and apologies, and later even proposes to her. Faith has no intention of accepting, but Kyle’s jealousy over her interactions with Rell proves extremely problematic to their fledgling relationship…LEAD (50)

[MARIE BISHOP] Kyle’s mother, age 50, she’s a sharp, sarcastic woman whom Kyle hasn’t seen in seven years. When he comes home to stay for a while, Marie gives him a somewhat cold welcome. Painfully divorced from her husband, Sidney, Marie is now seeing another man and has no apologies about how she’s living her life. Later, however, when Kyle confronts her about her behavior, Marie’s deep-seated emotions bubble up and we see the humanity underneath her seemingly bitter facade…LEAD (3)

[SYDNEY BISHOP] Kyle’s father and Marie’s ex-husband, he’s in his mid 50s, but looks much older than he actually is. He’s a wise and courageous man who is facing a hard battle to stay alive. Sydney is currently in the hospital for diabetes and congestive heart failure, and things aren’t looking good for him. When Kyle pays him a visit for the first time in years, Sidney greets him with undiminished love and genuine delight…LEAD (67)

[CHRISTINE BISHOP] Age 22, this colorfully attired college student is Kyle’s younger sister, who hasn’t seen Kyle in 7 years. She’s at a loss about how to respond to her Kyle when he returns home, but she gradually warms up to her brother. Later, she’s heard having a furious argument with her mother, who clearly thinks that Christine is a screw-up — a source of frustration and pain for Christine..LEAD (6)

[MARCUS SPARKS] Age 29, he’s Kyle’s old school pal, a funny fellow with a “guy next door” quality. Delighted to see Kyle again, Marcus still thinks he’s a big football player and has no idea he’s unemployed. Now working as a personal trainer at a local gym, Marcus offers to get Kyle a job at his place. LEAD (8)

[VON DAVIS] Faith’s 7 year old son, he’s an adorable little jokester, the class clown, who is always getting into trouble for his pranks. An avid football player himself, he clicks instantly with Kyle, whom he clearly considers a very cool guy. However, when Kyle falls out with Faith, it looks like Von won’t be seeing much of him anymore…LEAD (23)

[VINCENT PALERMO] Kyle’s agent, age 33, this business-minded guy is “100% about the money.” He calls Kyle in with the bad news that no pro team seems interested in acquiring him. Later, he has some better news for Kyle — but Kyle is somewhat rankled that Vincent has scheduled a tryout without even consulting him…15 speeches & 12 lines, 4 scenes (17)

[MR. EDWARDS] Kyle’s old grade school teacher, he’s a relaxed and cool guy in his 50s who welcomes Kyle with a warm hug. He asks Kyle to address his 7 year old students about his pro football career…10 speeches & 17 lines, 3 scenes (21)

[BEVERLY DAVIS] Faith’s mother, in her 50s, she’s as warm and outgoing as she is classy and sophisticated. She welcomes Kyle to her home with open arms. She and her husband have a playfully intimate relationship, as evidenced by their frequent smooches and hugs…3 speeches & 10 lines, 2 scenes (54)

[RON DAVIS] A successful, smooth man in his 50s, he’s Faith’s father, who also welcomes Ryan to his home. He’s clearly still madly in love with his wife, Beverly, and can’t seem to keep his hands off her — much to Faith’s good-natured embarrassment…4 speeches & 11 lines, 2 scenes (55)

[DREW IRVING] Age 29, he’s an athletic and charismatic footballer who is pitted against Kyle during their tryouts. A family man and a genuinely nice guy, he competes to the utmost of his ability, but although one of them will win and one will lose, he and Kyle clearly like and respect one another…5 speeches & 3 lines, 9 scenes (91)

[COACH GREEN] Age 50, this African American man is a pro wide receiver coach who holds tryouts for a new team position. He’s very impressed by both Kyle and Drew’s efforts, and tells them that they’ll know of his decision very soon…7 speeches & 8 lines, at least 3 scenes (93)

[STACEY SMITH] Age 24 and “video model attractive,” this pretty but shallow girl flirts with Ryan at Marcus’s party. Later, when she sees Kyle waiting at a bus stop, her interest in him wanes…10 lines, 3 scene (11

[AMANDA FLOWERS] Stacey’s friend, age 25, she’s earthy, attractive and obviously drunk. She starts up a game of “Truth or Dare” at Marcus’s party…1 speech & 9 lines, 3 scenes (13)

[TOW TRUCK DRIVER / ANTHONY] In his 40s, this African American tow truck driver repossesses Kyle’s car. He tells Kyle he’d like to help him, but that Kyle owes so much money there’s nothing he can do for him…3 speeches & 4 lines, 1 scene (15)

[LARRY ARMSTRONG] A smooth, good-looking man in his 50s who takes care of himself, he’s Marie’s new admirer, who takes Marie out several times a week…3 lines, 1 scene (29)

[MANAGER] This manager at Target interviews Kyle for a job, but is clearly surprised that Kyle’s only experience has been in pro football…1 speech & 4 lines, 1 scene (33)

[RECEPTIONIST] This attractive 22 year old receptionist works at Marcus’sgym…1 line, 1 scene (7)

[IGNACIO] This 7 year old Latino student is shushed by Mr. Edwards when he interrupts him…1 line, 1 scene (22)
